MONROE Better Days Ahead Family Support (BDA) Better Days Ahead is a parent run family support network that holds meetings in several locations in Monroe County. Respite and transportation is available for most meetings. BDA also offers individual respite, advocacy, and educational opportunities. NIAGARA Support Me In Life's Endeavor's (SMILE) A collaboration of services between The Mental Health Association in Niagara County, and New Directions Youth and Family Services, Inc. Programs provide support group meetings in Lockport, and Wheatfield. Child care is provided free at groups, as well as transportation assistance. Provides family outreach services, individual and systems advocacy for families/children, referral to Compeer Niagara for "kids", and Casey House shelter. TOMPKINS Family Support Services Provides parent support services, planned and unplanned respite care as well as monthly and special summer therapeutic recreational group activities. Respite services are open to all children who are seriously emotionally disabled, developmentally delayed, or who have behavioral issues, or a parent with a mental illness. Respite is community-based using a companion model. (An adult trained with specific interventions to enhance the child(ren) socialization and skill building).
