SSWGSA Sponsored Collection Drive
Summary: The School of Social Work Graduate Student Association collaborated with Sue Green and the DREAM Team to collect items for Carolynís House and Lutheran Home.
The School of Social Work Graduate Student Association collaborated with Sue Green and the DREAM Team to collect items for two wonderful agencies serving Western New York. Carolynís House is a supportive housing program for homeless women and children operated by the YWCA of Niagara. What resonated with the SSWGSA is that they have a client run and operated catering company. The residents are able to make money and learn valuable skills to help them on their road to self-sufficiency. Lutheran Home is an assisted living facility that gives residents just the right amount of assistance needed and encourages residents to live their lives to the fullest. Both agencies are truly wonderful non-profits that help fill very important needs in our community.
Students from each of the first year methods classes and each of the advanced year Trauma courses competed to see who could donate the most items. While the agencies were the real winners, Dr. Thomas Nochajskiís class won a pizza party by collecting an impressive 526 items!! In a close second was Dr. Adjoa Robinsonís class with 508 items. In total, the School of Social Work collected 1,381 items including diapers, formula, stuffed animals, school supplies, jewelry, ornaments various toiletries, and much much more! Students came together to work as a team to sort, count, and deliver the items! The agencies were very appreciative of every item and we are confident the recieving individuals will greatly benefit.
