The UB Institute for Nonprofit Agencies was founded in 2001 through a generous grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation to provide training and consulting services to executives, mid-level managers and board members of human service providers in Western New York. The Institute has been guided by an Advisory Board consisting of executives from nonprofit agencies and for-profit corporations as well as staff members from the UB Schools of Social Work and Management. It is currently under the umbrella of the Buffalo Center for Social Research.
Today it provides comprehensive training in strategic program planning, development, financial management and evaluation, servicing more than 200 agencies. Currently The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation provides scholarship support for selected agencies attending certificate programs. In addition to training, Institute staff link UB faculty and other experienced instructors to agencies upon request for individualized consultation and research services such as grantwriting, facilitated strategic planning, evaluation and service mapping.
